Are my photos uploaded?
No. Everything happens on your iPhone. Wiper works fully in Airplane Mode.
I deleted something by mistake. Can I get it back?
Yes, for 30 days. Open the Photos app › Albums › Recently Deleted, select the item and tap Recover.
Why does Wiper ask for full photo access?
To find duplicates, similar shots and blurry photos, Wiper needs to see your whole library. With "Limited Access", it can only work with the photos you selected.
You can change this in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos › Wiper.
I tapped "Don't Allow". How do I turn access on?
Open Wiper and tap Open Settings, or go to iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos › Wiper and choose Full Access.
Nothing is deleted without you seeing it first. Every list is reviewable before you clean, and anything removed goes to Recently Deleted rather than disappearing — you have 30 days to change your mind.
Cleaning
What does Smart Clean find?
Old screenshots, the extra shots in bursts of similar photos, and blurry photos. It always keeps your favourites and the best shot of every similar group.
You can review each list and remove anything before cleaning.
What is the Video Compressor?
It makes videos smaller by saving them at the definition you pick — 4K, 1080p, 720p, 540p or 480p. The new copy keeps the original date, place and favourite status.
The original goes to Recently Deleted, so you can restore it for 30 days.
Wiper keeps showing photos I already kept
Make sure Hide photos I already kept is on in Settings. To see them again, use Reset kept history.
Troubleshooting
Scanning is slow
The first scan of a large library can take a few minutes. Keep Wiper open and your iPhone unlocked. Later scans are faster.
Some photos don't load
They may be stored only in iCloud. Check your internet connection, or turn off Optimize iPhone Storage in iOS Settings › Photos if you have enough space.
Video compression failed
Some videos are already efficiently compressed and can't get much smaller, so Wiper skips them. Videos stored in iCloud need to download first, so check your connection.
The app crashed — what should I do?
Force-quit, reopen, and try again. If the crash repeats, contact us with your device model, iOS version, roughly how many photos are in your library, and which screen you were on.
Quick Tips
- Run the first scan on charge and leave the phone unlocked — it's the slow one, and only once
- Mark anything you'd hate to lose as a favourite; Smart Clean never touches favourites
- Start with Large Videos if you want the fastest gigabytes back
- Empty Recently Deleted in Photos afterwards — space isn't actually reclaimed until you do
- Compress before you delete a video you're unsure about: you keep the memory and most of the space
Freed space shows up in iOS storage once Recently Deleted empties, which is why the number can lag for a day or two if you leave it to clear on its own.
